About
Sirous Ranjbar (also known as Cyrus Ranjbar), born 21 September 1963 in Tehran, is an Iranian film director and screenwriter.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Film Production from IRIB University and a Master's degree in Philosophy of Law from the University of Tehran. He entered cinema as an assistant director on The Altar of Fire (1992) and Parviz Shahbazi's The Traveller from the South (1995), before directing his own debut feature, Call of Gabriel.
Alongside his own films he spent two decades as a script reader and member of the screenplay evaluation committee at the Farabi Cinema Foundation, Iran's principal film-support institution, and edited several cultural publications.
After being placed on an unofficial blacklist in 2012 and losing access to production permits, he left Iran and settled in Stuttgart in December 2021. The move opened a second chapter: a slate of German- and English-language screenplays, and a turn to literature with the novels Where Shadows Breathe (2025) and Narges: Symphony of a Life.
